ABOUT
Marina Walker is a British freelance photographer specialising in plant and garden photography for designers, private clients and those in the horticulture and floristry industries. She is based on the Hertfordshire & North London border, and regularly covers London, the Home Counties and beyond
Aside from gardens, Marina has a keen interest in photographing people, places and commercial projects
Whilst Marina has been surrounded by cameras for as long as she can remember (still owning her childhood Miranda Solo Panorama 35mm!), garden and plant photography became a means of documenting the changing seasons in the garden she inherited from her late mother in 2014. Through this meaningful hobby, Marina developed a love for plants and honed her photographic skills, discovering a particular fondness for capturing ‘plant portraits’.
With the encouragement of those who admired her work, she decided to pursue photography full-time
With a degree and interest in History of Art, Marina’s understanding of photography goes beyond the practical. Her knowledge of artistic movements has informed her approach to capturing the beauty of plants, with inspiration ranging from Impressionism and Modernism to the Dutch Masters
Marina’s style of photography has an emphasis on colour, detail and a creative use of light and shadow. Marina welcomes naturalistic vibrancy and aims to capture the life-giving richness of plants and joy of gardens in her work
Marina teaches 1:1 flower photography workshops in-person and online for those wishing to increase their skills, and speaks at events about her photography
She has an online print shop and an extensive catalogue of photographic greeting cards which are stocked in retailers across the UK, Europe & North America
Her debut solo exhibition was held at Myddelton House Gardens in September 2021
Full member of The Garden Media Guild and Professional Garden Photographers’ Association
